Statement by the Spokesperson of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the resumption of negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan in Addis Ababa

 

BRUSSELS, Kingdom of Belgium, November 28, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today:

“The High Representative welcomes the resumption of negotiations in Addis Ababa this week between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan under the auspices of the African

Union High Level Implementation Panel. She urges the parties to make every effort to resolve outstanding issues, including those related to oil, transitional financial arrangements, borders and

Abyei and to reach a negotiated settlement, with the help of President Mbeki.

The European Union supports the concept of two viable states living in peace with each other and regards the resumption of talks in Addis as of crucial importance in reaching this goal.”
