Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the Arrest of Interim Prime Minister Cheikh Modibo Diarra by the Military in Mali

TOKYO, Japan, December 14, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Japan condemns the arrest of interim Prime Minister Cheikh Modibo Diarra by the military in Mali on December 11th (December 10th local time).

Japan calls on all the parties concerned in Mali to strive to restore constitutional order and requests the military to immediately cease interfering in the efforts of the Mali’s interim government.

Japan continues to support the efforts being undertaken by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU), Mali’s neighboring countries and the United Nations to resolve the situation in Mali.
