Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the terrorist attack in Garissa, Kenya

NEW YORK, April 3, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Secretary-General strongly condemns the terrorist attack this morning on Garissa University College, in Kenya, which has left dozens dead and injured, with an unconfirmed number of students held hostage. He conveys his deeply-felt condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded. He hopes the situation will be brought quickly brought under control without further harm to those being held, and he calls for those responsible for today’s attack to be swiftly brought to justice.

The Secretary-General reiterates his solidarity with the people and the Government of Kenya, as well as the continuing support of the United Nations to Kenya and the countries of the region, in their efforts to prevent and counter terrorism and violent extremism.
