The government has admitted it failed certain communities in service delivery, the SABC reported on Thursday.
Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Sicelo Shiceka said in Pretoria: “We find that government has been lethargic at most and (at) worst doing nothing.”
A multi-pronged intervention programme would be initiated to stop service delivery protests.
Shiceka said the government wanted to change the state of affairs on a long-term and sustainable basis.
His announcement came after he had discussions with MECs of all nine provinces in his portfolio.
“What we’ve discovered (was) that in all the protests people have spoken to government in one way or another…whether through a memorandum, a march, or anything.”
