Readout of the UN Secretary-General’s meeting with Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, President of the Republic of Botswana
NEW YORK, December 14, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Secretary-General met today with the President of Botswana, Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama. They exchanged views on the International Criminal Court (ICC), including the speech that the President had delivered the day before to the ICC’s Assembly of States Parties. They also discussed the role of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in maintaining peace and security, including in relation to Madagascar and Zimbabwe; developments in Syria; and the situation of Somali refugees in Kenya. In addition, they spoke about the Millennium Development Goals and the needs of middle-income countries.
