The Secretary-General met today in Tunis with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord, Mr. Mousa Al Kony.
The Secretary-General commended the efforts of the Presidency Council in leading Libya's democratic transition and noted that peace and stability in Libya are of the highest priority for the United Nations and the international community.
The Secretary-General expressed deep concern at the worsening humanitarian situation and the growing expansion of Daesh in Libya, which is taking advantage of protracted conflict and political divisions.
The Secretary-General also expressed his full support to the Presidency Council and encouraged them to exercise strong leadership to swiftly establish the Government of National Accord in Tripoli.
He urged those who obstruct the return of the Presidency Council to Tripoli to cooperate in the immediate, orderly and peaceful handover of power. The people of Libya deserve a strong and United Government to end their suffering and bring back peace and stability.
