The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Jacob Zuma, President of the Republic of South Africa.
He thanked him for his personal cooperation with the United Nations in trying to resolve a number of peace and security issues in Africa.
They discussed the situation in Burundi, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including the role of South Africa as a contributor to the Force Intervention Brigade of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
The Secretary-General welcomed South Africa’s involvement in international efforts on climate change and sustainable development.
They also discussed UN issues, including Security Council reform.
