NEW YORK, November 19, 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Regional Integration of the Gabonese Republic. The Secretary-General commended Gabon for its contribution to the Human Rights Council, to peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic and for its important role in the resolution of the crisis in this country.
The Secretary-General welcomed Gabon’s leadership in addressing the challenges posed by poaching and wildlife trafficking in Central Africa.
The Secretary-General and the Minister exchanged views on regional developments such as the ongoing crisis in the CAR and the activities of Boko Haram in the Lake Chad Basin region, where the Secretary-General recommended that a regional approach be taken.
The Secretary-General also commended Gabon for its action on climate change and encouraged the Gabonese government to make their intended nationally determined contribution known by March 2015. The Secretary-General and the Minister also discussed the fight against the Ebola virus disease.
