Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa Noralyn Jubaira Baja presented her credentials to South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa on 14 March 2023 at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria.
In her message to President Ramaphosa, Ambassador Baja conveyed the best wishes of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his personal well-being and the prosperity of South Africa and its people and noted that both countries mark 30 years of diplomatic relations this year.
During the ceremony, President Ramaphosa also received the credentials of 17 other heads of missions. Addressing the newly accredited Ambassadors and High Commissioners, he reiterated the commitment of the South African Government to work with bilateral partners in advancing sustainable peace and development; building a more democratic, just and equitable world order; ending poverty and closing the disparities in wealth, skills, resources, and access to education, health and social support; as well as promoting the centrality of multilateral institutions in managing global affairs and respect for international law and agreements.
First Secretary and Consul Maurice A. Tiempo accompanied the Ambassador during the ceremony.
Ambassador Baja is the 8th Philippine envoy to South Africa since the establishment of the countries’ diplomatic relations on 01 November 1993. She is also the Philippines’ first female Ambassador to serve in the country.
