The Southafrican “Nothing but the truth” by John Kani is the best African film awarded yesterday during the 19th edition of the Film Festival of Africa, Asia and Latin America held annually in Milan.
The 7500 euro award has been given by three Italian journalists: Silvio Danese, Daniela Ducoli and Gabriele Porro.
The Indonesian “Jermal” by Ravi L. Bharwani and Rayya Makarim won the 15 thousand euro award for the best feature film in the category “Finestre sul mondo” (“Windows over the wolrd”).
The jury of this section was made by the Senegalese writer Boubacar Boris Diop, director Darezhan Omirbayev from Kazakhstan and Italian colleague Maria Sole Tognazzi.
The same jury chose the short African film “Waramutseo!” by Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu, made in Cameroon and Rwanda.
The best African documentary is the French – Moroccan “Le tableau” by Brahim Fritah who won a four thousand euro prix. The jury of this section was made by documentarist and journalist Lorenzo Hendel, Al Jazeera Documentary Channel director, Ahmad Mafouz, and by Farah Polato, a teach of the Italian Università di Padova.
This same jury also awarded the Moroccan “Nos lieux interdits” by Laila Kilani, as best documentary in the category “Finestre sul mondo”. The winner has taken a 6000 euro award.
Among the special prizes, the public chose the film “La Extranjera” of Fernando Diaz.
