Libya: press conference LIVE now

A UN offical envoy is meeting now leading figures of Libyan government.

Opposition says that it had captured 42 official loyal to Gaddafi.

Gaddafi has resorted to violence, extortion and kidnapping, the opposition said.

Opposition: we are open to a ceasefire. People must be allowed to express their views freely and openly.

Opposition: our main aim to lift the siege on our cities by Gaddafi’s forces. We are coming to rescue the people of Libya from Gaddafi’s violence.

Opposition: to all the revolutionaries I say we will be rewarded with victory.

Now Abdelilah Al-Khatib, UN envoy to Libya, is speaking: “We urge Gaddafi to allow access to people on humanitarian ground”.

“This is my second visit. Yesterday I met representatives of the government in Tripoli. I said what the Secretary-General stressed”, which is to ask Libya to comply with UN resolutions, to lift the siege around Misrata and to respect human rights.

A journalist is asking the UN envoy if he carries any conditions to pose to the Libyan government.

The key demand is to impose a ceasefire immediately and with no conditions. This is the key goal, the UN envoy said.

Opposition representative said that they reject the division of Libya, they fight for the territorial integrity of the country.

“We are adamant to observe the ceasefire”, opposition said.

Opposition: We have faith in the Libyan people. Gaddafi’s regime will end.
