The Sam Matekane Foundation (SMF) on Tuesday donated 1000 pairs of uniforms, an ambulance and medical equipment to the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) at an event held at Ha-Ratjomose barrack in Maseru.
The uniform consists of boots, trousers, short and long-sleeved shirts, combats and caps while the medical equipment includes 12 wheelchairs, 16 heaters, three patients trolleys and four Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and a fully equipped ambulance.
Presenting the donation to LDF, the SMF founder, Mr. Sam Matekane thanked God who helped them on this journey as they encountered some problems along the way, saying he felt a need to assist LDF with uniform and medical equipment.
He remarked that COVID-19 has showed them that the country lacks resources to fight diseases like COVID-19 hence felt the need to donate medical equipment to the Makoanyane Military Hospital.
He expressed hope that the uniform and the equipment will make the LDF more zealous to do their work as they already have a good report of doing their work.
Receiving the donation, the Minister of Defence, Mr. Halebonoe Setsabi thanked the Sam Matekane Foundation for extending a help to LDF, saying Lesotho is honoured to have people like Mr. Matekane hence wished that the country had more people like him.
Also speaking, the LDF Commander, Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela expressed their gratitude to the SMF for the donation as the last time they bought uniform was in August, 2015, commenting that uniform becomes worn out within a short period of time.
He said they are more proud because the uniform was made by Basotho therefore pleaded with the LDF members to take good care of the uniform. He therefore thanked the SMF for bringing back their pride as LDF.
The Sam Matekane Foundation which was established in 2021, last week donated uniform to the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).
