Principal Secretary, Ministry of Health, State Department for Public Health and Profession la Standards Dr. Josephine Mburu has said that the government intends to restore the glory of Public Health through strengthening community health systems.
Speaking when she presented the state department’s policy priorities and budget estimates for the Financial year 2023-2024, the PS said that the state department will ensure that quality healthcare service delivery is guaranteed through, provision of policies, human resource for health development and management, public health standards and sanitation management and consumer protection. “It will also provide strategic direction and leadership in support to all health professional bodies, development, framework development to ensure knowledge transfer/management and sharing of professional experiences.” Dr. Mburu said.
She informed the sitting that the government will prioritize Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in line with Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). This the PS said will be achieved through a robust public health disease surveillance and emergency response, Preventive and Promotive Healthcare, Community High Impact intervention. “We will also deploy Health system strengthening, use of technology, effective communication and collaboration with multiple stakeholders, to meet the rising needs for the human resources for health, the sector will put mechanism to provide training facilities through multidisciplinary medical outreaches.” Said she.
The PS called on Parliamentary Committee on Health to support the state department to execute its mandate. The Chair of the committee Hon. Pukose Dr. Robert promised to support the state department through guidance and oversight.
