On March 24, upon the request of the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents, portable jerry cans, water purifiers and plastic sheets) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the Republic of Mozambique in response to the damages caused by the flood and landslide disaster due to the Cyclone Freddy.
In light of the humanitarian perspective and the close relations between Japan and the Republic of Mozambique, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to the Republic of Mozambique to support people affected by the flood and landslide disaster.
In the Republic of Mozambique, the flood and landslide disaster due to the Cyclone Freddy, which made another landfall on the country on March 11 and 12, 2023, has resulted in a large number of those affected including the loss of lives and significant physical damage. According to the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, as of March 20, 2023, 155 people died, 174,916 people evacuated, and 703,096 people were affected.
