Italy / Cooperation: €1.5 million for Libyan children
ROME, Italy, December 14, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Italian Cooperation has earmarked a contribution of €1.5 million to the International Migration Organization (IMO) for a project to aid children in Libya. This was the announcement by Secretary Marta Dassù after having chaired the Steering Committee that approved the financing.
The occasion was a meeting in Rome entitled “Italy and the Mediterranean in the International Migration Context”, where Secretary Dassù underscored Italy’s close association with the IMO in handling the complex situation in Libya. She also thanked Dr. Oropeza, Director of the IMO’s office for coordination in the Mediterranean, for the organisation’s assistance to Italy in managing the emergency in Lampedusa and for its continuing collaboration.
The Secretary pointed out how the organisation still had staff on that Sicilian island, engaged in the Praesidium and Mare Nostrum projects, financed by the Italian Interior Ministry and the European Union, for the reception and orientation of migrants.
