Côte d’Ivoire / UNOCI chief meets PDCI Chairman
ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire, November 11, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d’Ivoire, Bert Koenders, met with the Chairman of the Parti Démocratique Ivoirien (PDCI), Henri Konan Bédié, for the first time on Thursday, 10 November 2011.
Speaking after the meeting, the chief of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) said his visit was part of his initial contact with Ivorian political leaders and authorities in an effort to obtain a wider view of the forthcoming legislative elections. “We talked about the elections, which are very important for the country and their importance for establishing a new parliament,” said Mr. Koenders.
The Special Representative said he intended to meet with the main opposition parties just as he had done with the country’s authorities. My role is to promote the smooth holding of the elections,” he concluded.
