ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire, November 15, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — UN Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) peacekeepers intervened on Monday afternoon to evacuate the victims of a plane crash at the Daloa airport that killed three persons and injured a fourth, who is in a critical condition.

The single-motor plane belonging to the Aéro-club d’Abidjan crashed just after taking off from the Daloa airport, which UNOCI uses regularly for its daily operations.

As soon as they were informed of the mishap, members of UNOCI’s Bangladeshi batallion (BANBATT) and the mission’s technicians based at the airport made arrangements to help the victims of the disaster, with Banbatt evacuating the four passengers.

The UNOCI Blue Helmets also took steps to secure the perimeter of the airport.
