The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Nakhumicha S. Wafula today met with the AIC Kijabe hospital team, led by Dr. Chege Macharia, to discuss ways of improving Oncology care, healthcare financing, and collaboration in advancing the universal health coverage agenda.
During the meeting, Dr. Macharia emphasized the hospital’s recognition of the Ministry of Health’s focus on primary care, universal health care, and Non-Communicable Diseases.
The hospital has continued to integrate its services in this domain in a clinic they refer to as the “Chronic Care Clinic,” which ensures efficient, effective, holistic, and sustainable primary care.
On average, the clinic serves 40 clients per day, and they look forward to collaborating more to tackle this emerging burden in the country. The discussions focused on enhancing the hospital’s capacity to provide quality and affordable Oncology care to their patients.
Dr. Nakhumicha and Dr. Macharia also explored innovative financing models that could improve access to health care services, particularly for vulnerable groups. They emphasized the importance of collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders to achieve the goal of Universal Health Coverage.
