ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR OPENING OF PETER MOKABA STADIUM

The Director of 2010 in the Polokwane Municipality in Limpopo, Ndavhe Ramakueala, says it is all systems go for the official opening of the new Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Premier Cassel Mathale and Polokwane Executive Mayor Thabo Makunyane will officiate the opening which will be preceded by a soccer tournament.

The preparations are at an advance stage and broadcasters are setting their equipment up to cover the opening.

Three ABSA Premier Soccer League teams Kaizer Chiefs, Super Sport United, Bid Vest Wits and Brondby IF from Denmark will play in the newly launched Inaugural Peter Mokaba Cup.

Mr Ramakuela said the preparations were going on very well and the ticket sales had been quite phenomenal, almost 18 000 tickets have been sold, adding that the remainder would be sold by the end of the day [Friday]. Police senior superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo said the opening will be used to test police readiness for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in the province.

The first match of the Peter Mokaba games will feature Brondby IF and Supersport United at 10am, followed by Kaizer Chiefs vs. Bid Vest Wits.

The finals will kick of at 5pm.
