The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) will hold its 40th Ordinary Session from 29 February to 18 March 2016 at its seat in Arusha, the United Republic of Tanzania.
The Judges, among others, will examine on over 50 applications and four requests for Advisory Opinions.
During the session, there will be two public hearings in respect of the following matters:
(i)Application 001/2014- Action pour la Protection des Droits de I’Homme APDH v Republic of Côte d’Ivoire on 3 March, 2016.
(ii)Application 003/2014- Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza v. Republic of Rwanda on
4 March, 2016
In the first application, APDH, among others, alleges violation by the Côte d’Ivoire government of Articles 3 and 17 of the Charter.
In the second application, the Applicant, among others, contends that her fundamental rights as enshrined in the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, in particular Articles 7, 10, 18, have been violated and she is seeking a remedy before the Court.
The public hearings will be held at the Kibo Hall at the AfCHPR premises at the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) buildings, Burka area, along Dodoma Road.
The hearings will begin at 10:00 am prompt and the public is invited. Those wishing to attend the hearings should send their names to the following:

1. The Court is composed of eleven judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity.
2. The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may meet in Extra-Ordinary Session.
3. Up to 31 January, 2016, the Court had received 74 applications of which 25 have been finalized. Four applications have been transferred to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
