Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the presidential and legislative elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo
TOKYO, Japan, December 13, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The presidential and legislative elections took place on November 28 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the provisional results on December 9.
Japan is concerned about a number of violent incidents observed during the election process and appeals all the parties to exercise maximum restraint and to act responsibly without using violence. Japan has been supporting the democratization in the DRC and continues to follow closely the situation in the DRC.
