Italian Development Cooperation sends a cargo to Kinshasa
ROME, Italy, November 24, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ — A commercial cargo plane containing supplies provided by Italian Development Cooperation left the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) at Brindisi today, headed for Kinshasa.
The aim is to provide concrete support and respond to the most urgent needs of the vulnerable regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). To that end, the Foreign Ministry’s Directorate General for Development Cooperation has organised this delivery of medical supplies to Congolese health structures providing basic health care.
The supplies donated by Italy consist of 31 medical kits, worth about 180,000 euros. Some contain essential medicines that can treat 10,000 people over 3 months, while the others contain specific treatments for malaria.
On arrival in Kinshasa, the supplies will be delivered to the Italian Embassy in the DRC and subsequently handed over to the Congolese Ministry for Public Health.
