Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Seychelles, led the Seychelles’ Delegation at the annual Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting (CFAMM), held on 15 March 2023, at The Commonwealth Secretariat, London, United Kingdom.
In line with this year’s Commonwealth’ Day Theme, “Forging a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future”, Minister Radegonde highlighted the importance a group like The Commonwealth plays in promoting shared understanding, unanimity, and adherence to international norms, particularly with the emergence of new world powers. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Commonwealth Charter's signing, he joined his peers in considering the significance and impact of the Commonwealth.
The CFAMM, which was chaired, by H.E. Mr. Vincent Biruta, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda, also addressed global issues of concern, including climate crisis, sustainable development, and reviewed developments among the Commonwealth countries.
Leading up to the CFAMM, Minister Radegonde, commemorated the Commonwealth Day, celebrated on Monday 13 March 2023, through his attendance of the Commonwealth Day Service at the Westminster Abbey, the Flag Raising ceremony at The Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth Reception at Buckingham Palace, hosted by King Charles III.
Alongside these historical events, Minister Radegonde was also present at the Flag Raising Ceremony at the House of Commons and laid a Wreath on behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Seychelles at the Memorial Gates, Constitutional Hill.
Minister Radegonde was accompanied by Ms. Patsy Moustache, Acting High Commissioner at the Seychelles High Commission in London and Mr. Hervé Pool, Desk officer for Commonwealth at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
