The UN Expert on Human Rights in the Sudan, Adama Dieng, will on Sunday begin his first official visit to the country, a month after the visit was postponed at the request of the Sudanese authorities.
During his visit, which will take place from 20 to 24 February 2022, Dieng will meet with senior Sudanese government officials, representatives of civil society organizations, human rights defenders, heads of UN entities, and diplomats.
Dieng was designated UN Expert on Human Rights in Sudan by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in November 2021, as mandated by the UN Human Rights Council resolution S-32/1, to monitor the human rights situation in Sudan since the military coup on 25 October 2021.
He will hold a press conference at the end of his visit on 24 February at the OHCHR premises in Khartoum at 09:30 a.m. local time.
