The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel condemns terrorist attack of 13 August in Ouagadougou

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attack, which took place on 13 August 2017 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and resulted in at least 18 deaths, with several other people wounded.

SRSG Ibn Chambas expresses his deepest sympathy to the bereaved and the families of the victims, as well as to the people and Government of Burkina Faso, and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

Mr. Ibn Chambas reiterates the full support of UNOWAS to the Government of Burkina Faso and other countries of the region in their fight against violent extremism and terrorism. He calls on the authorities to do their utmost to bring those responsible for this unjustifiable violence to justice promptly.
