Japan has donated $97.538 million through a local organisation marking it as the first bilateral assistance to Somalia. Japanese ambassador to Somalia, Tatsushi Terada, speaking during the signing of the contract which awarded Peace Action Society Organisation for Somalia the grant, said the funds will be instrumental in enhancing human resource development. The ambassador noted the funding is in line with agreements defined during the High Level Partnership Forum in Turkey last month which noted investment in human resource as vital to the country’s development. Additionally, Japan has also extended a $37.125 million grant to the UN and other international organisations for the nation’s humanitarian and reconstruction assistance.
