As part of the implementation of his mandate, the African Union (AU) High Representative for Libya, Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, former President of Tanzania, today, at the AU Headquarters, in Addis Ababa, met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Mr. Martin Kobler, who extensively briefed former President Kikwete on his efforts and United Nations initiatives in Libya .
The meeting afforded former President Kikwete and Mr. Kobler the opportunity to review the situation in Libya and identify practical joint steps to advance peace and reconciliation in Libya, including through the effective and timely implementation of the Libyan Political Agreement. President Kikwete and Mr. Kobler seized the opportunity of their meeting to impress upon the Libyan stakeholders the need to show a high sense of responsibility and statesmanship to bring violence in their country to end and meet the legitimate aspirations of their people to peace, stability and reconciliation.
