Zuma says this certainly calls for an important exercise of looking at this, given what has happened or given the feelings of the people. The president says the fact of the matter is that this is the struggle song that the ANC sang.
“But the fact of the matter is that there are people that are not happy about it and the question is how we take it forward. But before we come in politically let us allow the processes of the court,” Zuma said.
Zuma has called on political leaders to desist from publicly uttering statements that may potentially undermine the process of reconciliation in the country.
This as some have suggested that the song ‘Dubul’ iBhunu’ or ‘Shoot the Boer’ may be linked to the murder of Afrikaner Weerstands Beweging (AWB) leader Eugene Terre’Blanche. President Zuma says talks of peace and uniting the nation should prevail.
The two suspects in the murder of Terre’Blanche are to appear in court on Tuesday. A 21-year-old man and 16- year-old youth are being held by police in connection with the brutal slaying.
There is a strong police presence in Ventersdorp in the North West, close to the Terre’Blanche farmstead. Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has also appealed for calm and peace in the country.
Minister Mthethwa has warned that Terre’Blanche’s death should not be politicised. The National Press Club has condemned actions of a few right-wingers who threatened black journalists outside Terre’Blanche’s farm in Ventersdorp yesterday.
Black cameramen and several other journalists of colour were targeted by alleged AWB members. The club’s chairperson Yusuf Abramjee says they are disgusted at such racist behaviour.
