President Jacob Zuma has called on the Limpopo provincial government to investigate tenders awarded to companies linked to ANC Youth League president, Julius Malema.
Pres Zuma was responding to questions from Members of Parliament (MP) in the national assembly today.
The President was asked by a Congress of the People (COPE) MP if he intended investigating multi million rand tenders awarded to SGL engineering company.
This after media reports suggested that Malema, who is one of the owners of the engineering company, irregularly acquired tenders to build inferior roads and bridges in Limpopo.
Pres Zuma said it was the duty of the Limpopo provincial government to look into the matter, if necessary. He also challenged MPs and the public at large to present any evidence of corruption relating to Malema to the relevant authorities.
The president has also reiterated that the debate on nationalisation of mines, led by Malema, was healthy. Pres Zuma said opposition parties should hear Malema’s take on the issue, instead of asking him to shout him down. When MP’s asked about Schabir Shaik, as to whether he intended pardoning him, whose release from prison on medical parole has caused controversy. Zuma said it was unfair to prejudge the issue of presidential pardons before they are handed to him
