Singapore / Visit of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli to Mozambique, 3 to 5 June 2015

SINGAPORE, Singapore, June 5, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli visited the Republic of Mozambique from 3 to 5 June 2015. During his visit, Minister Masagos called on Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario. Minister Masagos and Prime Minister do Rosario reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and Mozambique, and welcomed proposals to conclude a Bilateral Investment Treaty and an Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement between the two countries. Prime Minister do Rosario also briefed Minister Masagos on priority areas under Mozambique’s new five-year economic plan. In this regard, Minister Masagos welcomed Mozambican leaders and officials to visit Singapore to study Singapore’s experience in developing its economy.

Minister Masagos separately met Minister for Industry and Commerce Ernesto Max Tonela and Minister of Economy and Finance Adriano Afondo Maleine. The Ministers discussed ways to strengthen relations between Singapore and Mozambique in the political and economic sector, and welcomed Singapore companies to invest and establish operations in Mozambique. Minister Masagos was also hosted to lunch by Minister Tonela.

On 4 June 2015, Minister Masagos delivered the opening address at the Singapore-Mozambique Business Forum organised by the Singapore Business Federation to promote business opportunities in Singapore and Mozambique. Representatives from 13 Singapore companies are visiting Angola on a SBF-led business mission. Minister Masagos also hosted dinner for top Mozambican business leaders, where they discussed economic developments and opportunities in Mozambique.

Prior to visiting Mozambique, Minister Masagos visited Angola. This concludes his five-day visit to southern Africa. Minister Masagos was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and International Enterprise Singapore.
