Charles Brewer, Managing Director for DHL Express Sub-Sahara Africa, says that this award highlights the power of their extensive network on the continent. “DHL Express is the only logistics company in Africa with a dedicated air network, and our continued investment in the continent over the last 37 years has enabled us to achieve a 95% on time delivery rate. We service over 16 000 active customers across the African continent, in addition to many thousands of cash customers and transport over 12.5 million shipments per year across the Sub Saharan Africa region.”
Brewer says that Africa is not only one of the last, but possibly the biggest frontier for business, and DHL has positioned itself to be an enabler of this growth by aiding companies with effective and reliable service and regional connectivity. “With DHL Express being present in every market and territory across Africa, we connect Africa to the world,” Brewer adds. He points to the International Monetary Fund’s January 2015 World Economic Outlook Projections Update1, which projects Sub-Saharan Africa to grow by 4.9% and 5.2% in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
“Companies are increasingly looking to expand into Africa due to these economic growth projections, and express logistics will play a key role in contributing towards this growth,” says Brewer.
Malcolm Macbeth, Vice President Aviation for DHL Middle East and Africa, says, “DHL Aviation was established in Africa over a decade ago. Our mission is to provide regular, reliable capacity to the markets in Africa that do not enjoy daily passenger and freighter links to the rest of the world. Through one virtual airline, the DHL Aviation network has access to more than 250 dedicated freighter aircraft connecting 22 major Air Hubs worldwide.”
“As more and more businesses begin to operate virtual supply chains, the need for reliable and timely logistics solutions becomes more important. Operating our own air network across the globe enables us to be more flexible and adaptable to our customer’s ever changing needs,” concludes Brewer.
