Statement by Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida on the murder of Egyptian Copts in Libya

TOKYO, Japan, February 17, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ — 1. On February 15th, a video was uploaded online purporting to show that 21 Egyptian Copts were murdered by a terrorist group in Libya which declares its loyalty to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Government of Japan is immensely outraged by this vicious terrorism act and resolutely condemns it.

2. Japan stands with Egypt at this difficult time. Japan expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims.

3. Japan will continue to engage in combatting terrorism in cooperation with the international community including Egypt and Libya.
