24 people have been killed because of the fighting between villagers and Mungiki people, members of a sect, in central Kenya.
“The residents of a village near the central Kenyan town of Karatina – signonsandiego.com reports – fought members of Mungiki because they have been extorting money from them, said Charles Owino, the deputy police spokesman”.
“What I know is that majority of the dead are Mungiki members,” Owino told The Associated Press.
Although at first the Police took the side of the Mungiki people, after a while the officers started lynching the Mungiki. According to a witness, who asked to remain anonymous afraid of reprisals, it is not known why the Police stopped supporting the Mungiki.
