AUC Chairperson in Algiers for Non Aligned Movement 17th Ministerial Conference

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, May 27, 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is in Algiers, Algeria, to participate in the 17th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The meeting that opened on Monday 26 May will end on 29May 2014.

Dr. Dlamini Zumawill deliver a statement as part of the discussions of the regional groups during the opening ceremony. Other speakers will include the President of Algeria, H.E Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the President of the UN General Assembly, the UN Secretary General and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, H.E Dr. Mohammad Zarif.

The AUC Chairperson will promote the Common African Position on the post-2015 Development Agenda during a working breakfast with heads of delegations on Thursday 29th May. The breakfast meeting will be hosted by Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Lamamra Ramtane.

As Africa redefines itself, Dr. Dlamini Zuma will be sharing Africa’s vision of itself and soliciting the support of the Non-Aligned Movement in achieving it.

The NAM is a movement of 115 members representing the interests and priorities of developing countries from Africa and Asia. Since its inception the NAM has attempted to create an independent path in world politics that would not result in Member States becoming pawns in the struggles between the major powers.
