EGYPTIAN FM DISCUSS FOR AU, AFRO-ARAB SUMMITS

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit met Sunday in Cairo with Jean Ping, chairman of the African Union commission, who is currently visiting Egypt.

The spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Hossam Zaki told reporters on Sunday that Aboul Gheit discussed with Ping all matters relating to the next African Union summit in Addis Ababa from 31 January to 2 February.

He added that the talks focused mainly on the issue of transformation of the AU Commission into an authority, in addition to the African role in resolving the conflicts in Darfur, Somalia, Guinea, Madagascar and Niger, noting that they also discussed the next Arab-African Summit to be held in Libya later this year.
