Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the Situation in the North of Mali

TOKYO, Japan, January 15, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Japan is deeply concerned on the recent situation in the North of Mali, where the attacks by the terrorists and extremists are in place.

Japan welcomes the assistances provided by France and member states of ECOWAS, at the request of the Malian government, to fight against terrorism. Japan expects that these actions will lead to establishing peace and stability in Mali.

Japan continues to support the efforts being undertaken by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU), Mali’s neighboring countries, the United Nations and other actors in the international community to resolve the situation in Mali.
